Combatting Organised Crimes Against Children, Indonesia
I am NOT FOR SALE
Location:
Across Indonesia
The Problem:

Every child is precious but not as a commodity

Here are some quick statsistics:

• Human trafficking is the joint second most profitable illicit trade worldwide (after drugs & alongside illegal arms) worth an estimated 32 billion USD annually

• 1 child every minute is sold into sexual slavery somewhere in the world

• An estimated 274 children are trafficked every day in Indonesia (ECPAT)

• 30% of these children are sold into sexual slavery (82 children per day) (ECPAT)

• The sale of children for the removal of their vital organs is a growing industry on the black

market (UNGIFT)

• International sex offenders are increasingly travelling to developing countries to abuse the

local children & avoid detection (CEOP)

• They often create child pornography which is sold internationally & is thought to be worth

more than 20 billion USD annually

• All three of these illegal industries involving Organised Crimes Against Children are currently

booming. If we do nothing they will continue to grow so we must act NOW.

Project COCAC is focusing on 3 issues in Indonesia:

1) Child trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation

2) Child trafficking for the purpose of organ removal

3) Child sexual abuse by international paedophile networks

The Solution:

Project COCACs Plan of Action in 2012 & going forward:

• An international & nation-wide awareness & prevention campaign

• Strong working relationships with international & national police agents, NGOs & Governments to share information, facilitate raids & support legal proceedings

• The creation of a safe house & therapeutic centre in Bali (The Sanctuary) where rescued

children can recover with the support of a specialist team

Awareness & Prevention

In order to prevent these large scale highly organised crimes we must raise awareness at an international, national & local level.

Project COCAC is:

• Launching media campaigns including TV & radio Public Service Announcements plus newspaper & online articles

• Giving a range of public presentations & hosting educational seminars

• Delivering outreach workshops to educate local parents & children in the worst affected areas

• Creating a nation-wide helpline number together with a team of trained call centre operators

Intelligence & Advocacy

When children have been trafficked or abused it is important to find out where they are, bring them to safety & to prosecute offenders.

Project COCAC is:

• Conducting detailed research to improve our understanding of these crimes

• Working closely with international, national & regional police forces to share intelligence &

support raids

• Providing advocacy & protection to victims giving evidence

Protection & Aftercare

Children who have been rescued require intensive support & protection in order to recover from these deeply traumatic experiences.

Project COCAC is:

• Creating an eco-village called The Sanctuary in Bali which will serve as a safe home providing 24 hour protection & support

• On site will be a range of houses plus a school, workshop, therapy room & full medical facility

• The children will be able to draw up their own plan of therapeutic activities including psychotherapy & other talking therapies, meditation, martial arts, art therapy, touch therapy, spiritual pilgrimages, Balinese traditional healing, organic farming & animal care.

• The medical facility will deal with the full spectrum of health issues including treatments for HIV, STDs, internal bleeding, the results of physical beatings & malnutrition

• There will be skilled teachers to provide personalised education & vocational training to

empower the children to move forward with their lives

• Every effort will be made to maintain communication between the child & his/her family & if it is possible & safe to place the child back with the family the team will facilitate this as soon as possible.

It is vital that Organised Crimes Against Children are abolished globally. We must all take a stand NOW to protect the world’s children.

Research reports will be published here soon.
