Jacqui Colbeck's Fundraiser was a huge success!
I would like to say a HUGE Thank You to Jacqui Colbeck in Spain for hosting a wonderful fundraising party last weekend. About 30 people attended the party and enjoyed Jacqui's magnificent cooking, a great raffle, and an emotional speach by Natalia. The group heard about the creation of The Sanctuary, the eco-village currently under construction in Bali to safe house trafficked and abused children, and the need to create a range of beautiful gardens for the children to play in and enjoy. The budget we had set for the gardens was £2000 and we were hoping to raise a bit of money on the night to go towards this goal. Despite the hard financial times when many expats in Spain are feeling the pinch particularly hard, the group raised a fantastic 526.65 Euros, plus a further 40euros for Sacred Childhoods through the sale of Suchi products. This was an amazing achievement and together with the money raised from Clare's fundraiser the previous weekend we were well on our way to that £2000 goal.
However after Natalia's speach Andy Oliver, who is the Senior Managing Partner for Devier Group, a private financial investment company, pledged the full £2000! This was a wonderful suprise and a great relief, to know that the gardens at The Sanctuary can be created in January, with the help of students at The Green School, as planned.
So the total budge that we now have for the gardens is £2700 which will not only enable us to create a range of herbal and flower gardens, organic gardens growing our own food, and a healing circle where the children can talk through their problems with their foster mothers or the therapists, but we will also be able to build a play area with swings, slides, and a volley ball pitch!
We will be sure to upload the photos to the website once the gardens are complete to show you how the money has been spent, together with a financial breakdown.
Thank you so much to Jacqui for organising this wonderful party, to Andy Oliver of Devier Group, and to all the guests who also contributed!
