Social Investment Funds
Don’t just give your money away – Invest it!
When we are thinking of investing money into something (such as a business, a pension scheme or some stocks and shares) we usually think long and hard about what our options are, where we can place our money, how it is likely to be spent and what kind of reward it’s going to bring –how much the return will be.
But we’ve got into the bad habit of treating our donations as simply money that we’re giving away instead of applying the same logic. So of course that money becomes vulnerable to corruption or being misspent.
At Sacred Childhoods we are encouraging people to think differently about their donations and consider creating a Social Investment Fund.
You can start by:
- Checking our accounts, policies, budgets, plans and registration to decide whether we are an organisation that you would like to support -these can all be found in our Funding pages.
- Review our projects to see if one of them particularly interests you
- Find out if that project is already funded (details on the bottom of the project page) or whether some funding is still needed (a financial breakdown of the costs are in the Budgets pages)
- Get in touch with us and discuss the ins and outs (Social Investment Funds will be designed to fund a particular aspect of the project for one year)
- Decide whether you wish to fund this yourself or contact friends and family to see if they want to join your Social Investment Fund (alternatively you can create a corporate Investment Fund through your company)
- Arrange to make the donation and name your Investment Fund
- As soon as we receive the donation we will add the name of your fund to our website so that you can begin to track it
- We will then send you quarterly financial reports detailing how much of that fund is remaining, what the funds spent so far have paid for, and how it has benefited the group of children that your fund was designed to support (with photos and/or video).
- At any time you are welcome to contact the team for an update enabling you to personally monitor the fund -and of course you're always welcome to come and visit the project yourself!
- At the end of the year you will receive a full summary of how that fund has helped the group of children that you set out to support and you can then evaluate the success of your investment and decide whether to invest again in the future
Now isn’t this a better idea than just giving your money away and hoping for the best…?
